BS Environmental Science

Introduction

Environmental Science is generally defined as the study and application of science based approaches to understand, protect and manage the Earth’s natural systems. It is a multidisciplinary field of activity, which heavily relies on integration of Ecology, Environmental Chemistry, Geology, Atmospheric Sciences, Conservation Biology, and Environmental Policy, together with other related disciplines, in a way that optimizes the understanding and resolution of environmental issues. Over the last few decades, global concerns over climate change, resource depletion, pollution and biodiversity loss have given rise to Modern Environmental Science, which is now one of the fastest growing areas of study; hence this century has rightly been termed as the “Century of Sustainability”, hoping that such advances in environmental sciences
will yield changes more momentous than those brought by the industrial revolution.

Learning Outcomes

  • Master the concepts of environmental science, ecology, environmental chemistry, geology, and sustainability studies.
  • Get skills necessary to collect, interpret, and critically analyse field, laboratory, and geospatial data as well as relevant scientific literature.
  • Have proficiency in oral and written presentation of environmental issues, research findings, and scientific concepts.
  • Gain knowledge from industry and policy perspectives in the environmental field and develop core competencies in research methods.
  • Prepares students for higher studies and research work in the field of environmental science and related areas.

Program Distinctive Features

  • Combines principles from ecology, chemistry, geology and environmental policy to tackle modern challenges in climate change, resource management, pollution control and sustainable development.
  • Provides extensive field and laboratory experience in environmental sampling, water and soil analysis, GIS mapping and ecosystem monitoring, fostering proficiency in key environmental techniques.
  • Offers opportunities for undergraduate research, allowing students to work alongside faculty on projects in environmental restoration, renewable energy and conservation practices.
  • Collaborates with environmental agencies, NGOs and industry partners to offer internships and guest lectures, providing students with real-world exposure and networking opportunities.
  • Emphasizes ethical decision-making and sustainability in environmental practices, preparing graduates to contribute responsibly to society.

Teaching Pedagogy

Teaching pedagogy for BS Environmental Science fosters an environment that promotes active engagement, critical inquiry, and practical application of knowledge. Faculty members employ diverse methods such as hands-on experiments, inquiry based learning, technology integration, and collaborative projects to enhance student understanding. A variety of assessment strategies are utilized to gauge comprehension and provide feedback, while encouraging reflection on learning experiences by reflective practices. Ultimately, effective teaching pedagogy our faculty aims to inspire curiosity, cultivate critical thinking skills, and prepare students for success in scientific inquiry and application.

Eligibility Criteria
